What shocks me and offends me are nothing of the same. To be shocked is to be surprised and to find wonder in a moment. To be offended is something completely other than this. Offense comes because things don’t happen as you be believe they should. I would rather not be offended.

Innovation, creativity, freedom of expression, the constant and successful curve towards ever more inclusion, ever more expansion of human rights, even at a dreadful cost in blood... the eternal and idealistic belief that life will get better, the flow of the river of history is always, ultimately in the direction of human freedom and America with all it’s faults is its harbinger
